How to calculate conduit fill?
To calculate conduit fill according to NEC Chapter 9 Tables 1, 4, and 5: (1) Find the cross-sectional area of each conductor based on its gauge and insulation type (THHN, XHHW, etc.) from Table 5. (2) Sum the total wire area. (3) Look up the internal area of your chosen conduit type (EMT, PVC, RMC) from Table 4. (4) Apply NEC Table 1 fill limits: maximum 53% for 1 conductor, 31% for 2 conductors, and 40% for 3 or more conductors. Ensure total wire area does not exceed allowable conduit fill area.
What is the maximum allowable conduit fill percentage according to the NEC?
